ADHD & Autism Assessments for Adolescents

Helping you understand what’s going on — and what might help.

Adolescence brings growing demands at school, socially and in everyday life. For some young people, this is when ADHD or autistic differences become more noticeable — particularly when the strategies that helped them manage earlier in life are no longer working as well.

Understanding these differences during adolescence can help a young person make sense of their experiences, recognise their strengths and needs, and identify supports or adjustments that may make everyday life more manageable as they move toward adulthood.

What might ADHD or autism look like in adolescence?

Every young person is different, and ADHD or autistic differences aren’t always obvious. You might notice:

• Difficulty with organisation, attention or getting started
• Feeling overwhelmed or exhausted by school and everyday demands
• Sensory sensitivities or a strong need for predictability
• Social situations feeling confusing, effortful or draining
• Strong emotions, shutdowns or needing significant time to recover
• Masking or working hard to appear as though things are okay

Experiences like these can be part of adolescence. But when they begin to get in the way of living life the way you want to, it may be worth exploring what’s going on.
